About Us

Empowering Individuals with Disabilities Through Scuba Diving

Barrier Free Divers is a 501c3 non-profit, registered in Florida and located in Key Largo.

In 2016, Rosemary and Kay met in Washington, DC, where Kay was working for a disability and civil rights non-profit, and Rosemary was named their Advocate of the Year. Beyond their mutual passion for justice work, they also discovered they shared a love for adaptive diving, and the desire to share the gift of diving with others.

Our mission is to remove obstacles to scuba diving for individuals with disabilities through various initiatives. We offer free adaptive discover scuba programs in local pools, facilitate certifications for divers with disabilities, and organize specialized programs such as our flagship Camp Open S.E.A.S. We also serve as a leading resource in promoting accessible design for scuba operations and resorts, aiming to expand adaptive diving opportunities globally.
